The remote curriculum: what is taught to pupils at home
Will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
For children in Year 2 – 6, we will continue to follow the National Curriculum for Reading, Writing at Maths but at a slower pace. This will enable us to break the learning into smaller steps to compensate for the fact that children are not learning at school with the support of their teacher and other members of staff. For other subjects your child will be set tasks linked to their Learning Challenge. For children working in Reception & Year 1, we will focus direct teaching on phonics and maths. All other subject areas (for the EYFSP and NC) will be covered through a range of activities and challenges. Nursery children will also have a wide range of activities and challenges set to cover the curriculum. They will have two weekly live lessons to share their home learning. Remote teaching and study time each day
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
Remote learning will take place via Zoom and Class Dojo. Your child's class teacher and a member of support staff will be on each session to ensure we are all safe. These can be accessed via a laptop, tablet, or phone. Both Class Dojo and Zoom are free apps. All children have been provided with a learning pack which contains the resources to support their learning at home.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Please contact school if you require support with acquiring a device or additional mobile data to access on the live lessons.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
· Remote learning will take place via Zoom and Class Dojo
· Daily live lesson with your child's class teacher
· Recorded lesson will also be posted on Class Dojo, these may be links to teacher recordings or a website
· Worksheets and challenges will be uploaded on to Class Dojo on a daily basis
· A weekly zoom assembly will celebrate the children’s achievements
Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
Please keep up to date with what is happening on Class Dojo. You can message the class teacher if you are unsure of any aspect of remote learning. Many of you will feel anxious about supporting your child with remote learning. Remember, be kind to yourself, have patience and remember all children are unique and learn at a different pace. Being in a routine will help you and your child so make sure they have everything they need to hand.
The staff of Beckfoot Nessfield would like you to follow the following simple rules in order to make our remote learning as positive and worthwhile as possible:
1) Be on time – If you are more than 5 minutes late the member of staff will not admit you to the lesson as they will have already started teaching
2) Make sure your video is turned on
3) Ensure you are out of bed and suitably dressed to learn
4) Please do not bring pets or younger siblings onto Zoom with you – You are there to learn
5) Mute your microphone unless you are asked to unmute
6) Do not type messages into the chat box – this will be used by members of staff to communicate with you
7) When a member of staff shares their screen do not write or draw on their screen – This appears on every bodies screen and can be distracting
8) Parents, we appreciate that you may need to be present to supervise or support with technical issues but please do not feel you need to participate in the lesson. Remember, this is new for the teachers and the smaller the audience, the better
The teachers have set work that all children, if they have attended the live lesson or watched the recorded links, should be able to access. The role of parents is to reassure and encourage the children rather than teach them as we appreciate this is not necessarily your area of expertise. If your child is really struggling, please contact the teacher via Class Dojo and they will contact you directly to resolve any queries.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Registers for all live zoom lessons will be taken daily and parents will be contacted if a child does not attend a lesson. Completed work needs to be uploaded to Class Dojo when it is completed each day. The teachers will mark your child’s work and feedback will be given. If there are any concerns over lack of engagement or the quality of the work submitted, teachers will contact parents directly.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes. You will receive a message for every piece of work via Class Dojo. This may be a “like” or a comment depending on the task set. Completed work will come back to parents as approved but if there are improvements or editing to be done on the work, it will come back to parents as draft.
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
All children with an EHCP have been invited to attend school on site, including those who we have made applications for, and will continue to receive in-class support as set out in their plan or provision map.
For those children with EHCPs who are at home, steps will be taken that we, where possible, provide the provision set out in their plan.
The SENDCo will be in regular contact with families of children with EHCPs and will be available to be contacted, via the office, for other children on the SEND register.
For those children with SEND accessing from home, teachers will ensure that they continue to give work appropriate to meet their individual needs, including a bespoke programme of activities if necessary.
Weekly contact with class teacher.
Where possible, interventions may still be carried out remotely. Where not possible, additional work packs have been sent home and will be replenished throughout the remote learning period.
1:1 staff will keep in contact with children to maintain relationships.
Access to electronic devices if required.
Continue access to online intervention platforms, such as NESSY.
Additional resources such as overlays, visuals, word lists, and physical equipment have been supplied to those at home.
Contact with outside agencies will continue remotely and the SENDCo will continue to coordinate this.
For those children accessing The Nest Nurture Provision, mental health and well-being activities being set via dojo and weekly zoom nurture sessions to maintain relationships.
For those children accessing the School Counsellor, sessions will continue for those who are in school. Those who are at home, the counsellor will make weekly contact via telephone.
