Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Re Think Food

ReThink FoodOur ReThink Food initiative has been relaunched by our Y6 ambassadors.

ReThink Food is a community-based, not for profit company working to change the way families in Leeds, Bradford and Keighley think about food. Their ethos is around reducing food waste and tackling climate change. The company was started by two teachers who noticed the amount of food wasted by shops and supermarkets. Each week, ReThink drivers collect food deemed 'unsaleable' by their standards and deliver this out to schools, including ours! The great thing is, all of the items are still fresh and within their expiry date!

As a school we support their message and are working to impart this knowledge to our community. As such, we have started a cooking club for Y5 and Y6 using items which have been delivered by ReThink Food and have also set up a weekly 'grocery stall' for parents to visit and pay a contribution for the value of their 'shop'. This way we can continue to support the valuable work of the company. In addition, our Y6 children are participating in weekly lessons learning more about food waste and its negative impact on the environment. Hopefully as the year progresses we can share the message to more of our school community - we have some very knowledgeable and passionate ReThink Food Ambassadors in Y6!
