Teacher: Mr Atkinson
Support: Mrs Wicks
During their time in year 6, children will be expected to set a positive example for all other pupils. This will include how they behave around school, how they appear in uniform and PE kits and how they treat others.
Our school rules remain pinnacle in maintaining good behaviour across school and we are continuing to use ‘Class Dojos’ as a positive behaviour strategy. There are a number of attributes children may be awarded Dojos for and we celebrate each time Dojos are awarded to children in our class community.
Children are expected to read daily at home and make a note in their journals. We do also expect, however, children to be listened to by an adult or older sibling at least once a week to support development and again ensure a comment is made in journals. Reading journals will be checked by staff on a regular basis and contact made with parents if it appears children are not reading outside of school.
Children are also expected to practise their times tables up to 12x table. This could be chanting, singing, written activities from parents or even games online or suitable apps, such as Times Table Rockstars (which can be accessed online or via an app). Your child may remember their log-in or may be given new ones in the coming weeks. We have provided each child with Study Guides for English and Maths. We expect these to be brought in daily, if children choose to take them home, as they may be referred to in lessons.
Spellings will be sent home each Friday to be tested the following Friday. Children should also still have access to Spelling Shed, which again can be accessed on online or downloaded as an app, and we may set activities on there from time to time to support the teaching of spelling.
PE lessons take place each Monday and Wednesday afternoon. PE kit should be: white t-shirt, black/navy shorts and pumps/trainers. Children may wear a black/navy tracksuit into the winter months if they prefer as all lessons now take place outdoors. If children do not have suitable kits in school as necessary they will not participate in lessons.
We are sure that all the children will settle in quickly, but if you are worried about anything, please message Mr Atkinson through Class Dojo or contact the school office who can pass a message on. We have phones in the classroom which call out so contact can be made as soon as is possible within a busy classroom environment!
We are really looking forward to the exciting year ahead and ensuring our children leave Beckfoot Nessfield with the necessary skills they need for the wider world, regardless of the time they have lost through lockdown.
